Information on some interesting spots

Christ Church

If you have a passion for architecture, this Church is a place not to be missed. When you look closely, you will be able to see the handmade pews and ceiling beams that had been constructed without joints. Other exquisite features include the Brass Bible, a tombstone written in Armenian and the glazed titles of the 'Last Supper'. Built in 1753, the Christ Church is situated along Jalan Gereja, which is just a walking distance from Hotel Equatorial Melaka.

A Famosa Fort

The hallmark of Melaka was built by the Portuguese in 1511 as a fortress and sustained severe structural damage during the Dutch invasion in the early 17th century. The British East India Company had then set to destroy the said fort but timely intervention by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1808 saved what remains of Porta De Santiago or commonly known A Famosa Fort. It is just a short walking distance from Hotel Equatorial Melaka and is open to the public at no charge at all.

Jonker Walk

Jonker Walk is the most interesting shopping venue in Melaka. The Street contains every imaginable trade, such as spirit importers, hairdressing salons, wooden shoe stores, apothecaries with Chinese herbs on display, sign printers, an acupunture clinic, antiques, boutiques, etc. There are also combinations of craft shops and restaurants, with a Peranakan ambience. You will find treasures such as ornate oil lamps, opium beds, altar stands, old Victorian clocks and early gramophones in antique shops with the said Street. It is just minutes, by foot, from Hotel Equatorial Melaka.

Melaka River Cruise

Only one word can describe the river of Melaka -- ROMANCE. It is certainly the novel way to tour Melaka. A cosy coffee corner below the TIC serves drinks and snacks while you wait to get on board the boat. The short river tour takes 45 minutes. Onboard, you can't miss the ancient houses and fishing boats and keep a look out for Kampung Morten -- a picturesque Malay village. And if you are lucky, you might just catch a glimpse of iguanas lurking and resting among the reeds.
